Built on the banks of the artificial Lake Bal Samand, is the Bal Samand Palace an edifice in red sandstone surrounded by lush green gardens. Maharaja Jaswant Singh built the Samand Palace, when he was in the heights of his power under the Mughals. Spread across 60 acres of land, this majestic palace along with its lake was always special. In recent times, a tradition has been set such that the royal family celebrates the first rains in Bal Samand Palace. So much so, that the palace came to be known as the 'Monsoon Palace'. However, the restoration has converted it into a palace for all seasons.
